What’s a Coach’s Chassis? That’s the question that many have asked over the years. Owner Tom Brooks taught Physical Education and coached athletics for 25 years.  To this day, many people still call him Coach. While still with the Albuquerque Public School system, he developed an interest in auto racing in 1971 mainly through crewing for his brother-in-law, Ron Greenstreet. In 1977, Tom was asked by Johnny Johnson to help him build a Late Model. When the car made its debut at the annual Western World at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, it ran very well. When a Midwestern racer asked Johnny’s friend, George Brazil, Jr., what kind of chassis that was, George said, “that’s a Coach’s Chassis”. The name of what came to be the  business, was born.

Over the years, Coach’s Chassis has evolved to include the necessary hard and soft parts to complete a race car. Coach’s can build Modifieds and Late Models on our in house jig.  Coach’s can build and install roll cages in not only stock cars but also drag cars, road racers, off road vehicles. Coach’s can repair, replace or renovate most any kind of race vehicle. Since 1981, Tom and his wife, Ruth, have been owners of a dirt Super Late Model. They have traveled all over the region and into the Midwest to race where they learned much about suspensions and setups. Along with those experiences, the Race Wise Chassis Schools that Tom has attended and trips to the Performance Racing Industry Trade Shows to keep up on new products, Coach’s Chassis has been able to assist many customers in getting their hot rods to race faster by making them handle better. Tom and Ruth’s Coach’s Chassis sponsored Super Late Models have won championships in 2003 and 2007.

With 37 years of experience in this field, Tom and Ruth have seen technology and science make racing faster and safer. They have seen some race cars turn into quite sophisticated machines which only complement the entry level cars and give racers more choices. At Coach’s Chassis, Tom and Ruth strive to assist all of the racers who race on all surfaces in all high performance vehicles to make their ride its best.
